Workload statistics
-During the period from 01/1/2022 to 31/12/2022 (12 months); 247 new patients were admitted to MGOU, initially diagnosed as malignant gynecologic tumors based on clinical and radiologic findings.
However, the final histopathology after surgery revealed only 200 cases (80.9 %) were only malignant, borderline, or pre-malignant and hence 47 benign cases were excluded from the analysis.
- Regarding ovarian tumors:
93 cases were initially diagnosed as suspicious of malignant ovarian tumors based on clinical, tumor markers, and radiology. However, after laparotomy/laparoscopy or image-guided biopsy; 50 cases only proved malignant.
-Cervical cancer and precancerous lesions:
58 cases (had undergone 61 interferences) were managed; all had undergone examination under anesthesia and tissue biopsy. According to staging, tissue biopsy, and MDT decisions.
- Regarding the managed cases of endometrial carcinoma;
63 new cases were managed during 2022; the different interferences are shown in this table. Early stage- low risk were 21 cases; 7 of them (33.3%) has performed minimally invasive surgery, The ratio was increased to 70% in 2023 and 2024.
-Vulval cancer:
9 new cases of vulval cancer were managed and followed up.
- GTD:
We managed 20 new cases of gestational trophoblastic neoplasia (GTN) in 2022 either medically with chemotherapy or surgically (in addition to treatment and follow up of more than 50 cases of hydatidiform moles)
