About Us
History:
The Chest Medicine Department started as a unit inside the Internal Medicine Department in 1970. It became a full separate department in 1980. The late professor and head of department Dr. Abdallah Khaled was the first head of department and the one who create most of its various units.
Facilities and Services:
The department is in Mansoura University Main hospital “New ICUs Building and Specialized Medicine Building”.
Facilities:
- 28 ward beds and 28 ICU beds.
- A renal dialysis unit.
- A unit for pulmonary arterial hypertension.
- A unit for pulmonary functions tests and pulmonary rehabilitation.
- A Sleep Medicine Unit.
- A Library.
- A teaching Hall.
- Administrative offices.
Medical and Research Services:
Diagnosis and Treatment of the following respiratory diseases;
- Airways e.g. Bronchial Asthma “BA”, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease “COPD” and Bronchiectasis.
- Pulmonary infections e.g. Pneumonias and Lung abscess.
- Interstitial Lung Diseases “ILD” e.g. sarcoidosis and Hypersensitivity Pneumonitis “HP”.
- Pulmonary vascular e.g. Pulmonary Embolism “PE” and Pulmonary Hypertension.
- Pleura e.g. Pleural effusions and Malignancies.
- Lung Cancer.
- Mediastinal disorders.
- Chest wall disorders.
- Sleep related breathing disorders as Obstructive Sleep Apnea “OSA”.
- Pulmonary critical care.
- Respiratory problems related to diseases of other body systems.

Role of the department’s members in combating CoVid-19 Pandemic:
- Participating at Isolation Hospitals.
- Triaging suspected patients at ER department.
- Follow-up of recovered cases at Post CoVid Clinics.
- Participating at Mansoura scientific committee.
